Pikni Dem Remember Group 87 :: Language Olympics
This is the true story of 36 strangers picked to live on an island.... be separated into two sectors and have their lives changed... to find out what happens when people stop being comfortable and start getting real. The Real World: Peace Corps Jamaica Pre-Service Training.
Education Group 87 |
Pre-Service Training here in Jamaica is intense. We fly to a foreign country, meet 30+ new government issued friends, train in a community together for two weeks, separate into Education and Environment sectors, train for six looooong weeks, and finally come back together to finish up training. That's about where we are at now. On Wednesday, we pack up and head off to our new homes all over the island. What better way to wrap up training than with a huge competition?! Education vs Environment showdown. ISH GOT REAL.
We competed in all kind of competitions including dominos, dancehall queen (get it Blessing!), bula eating contest, clothes line race, quiz team, National Anthem singing, and Patwa telephone. But most importantly, we went head to head in a team building video and performance. Scores from each event were tallied and we have an official winner.

Education Sector logo. Our motto, mi de ya kaaz wi de ya, means I am because we are. |
The Environment group definitely brought their A game with a really cool rendition of Nesbeth's "My Dream" and a phenomenal Kumina performance. You were extremely worthy opponents.
And finally! Our video. Ladies and gentlemen, meet Peace Corps Jamaica Group 87's Education Sector performing our version of Rihanna's "Work".
The song that continues after the video is the medley that we used for our dance performance, so you can stop there if you'd like.
Both sectors really set the bar high for the groups that will come after us. Future group 88 (I know you'll be reading this eventually), you better bring it next year!
One love.
xoxo, Leah
